SHIOK! Film Festival 2007

Cinema is a cultural art form. Like the fine arts or performance arts,
it is a medium that promotes a cultural landscape. It empowers the
filmmaker with a voice to express his state of mind, the state of his
community and his cultural being.

SHIOK!films, abbreviation for SHIOK! Film Festival 2007, aims to
bridge the appreciation of the Malay langguage with filmmaking in
a unique competitive festival. There are a million ways of telling a
story and even more ways to film it. It's your story and we want you
to tell it your way.

The signature theme for 2007 is extracted from the popular Malay pantun "Dua tiga kucing berlari, mana nak sama, si kucing belang",or literally, "Two or three cats go a-runnin', but none's the same likea striped one".

Participants are encouraged to explore, and interpret the theme broadly and creatively, in various mediums (ie video, flash, 3D-animation etc). The sole criteria of judging will be on the creative interpretation of the signature theme vis-a-vis the medium used in the story-telling.

The competition is open to EVERYONE and all film enthusiasts can participate.

SHIOK! Film Festival 2007 will be developed into a touring international film festival, following the premiere screening at the Malay Heritage Centre.

Registration closes Friday 17th August 2007.

10 finalist films will be screened at the Malay Heritage Centre @ Istana Kampong Glam, Singapore. The winner and 2 runners-up will be announced on 1st September 2007.

For details, please refer to our 'rules and regulations' in the entry forms or email shiokfest@gmail.com for enquiries.
