A rare regional artistic collaboration between Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia will be showcased in a 90 minute Zapin music and dance production as part of the inaugural Zapin D'Muara Festival produced by Era Dance Theatre Limited for the Singapore Arts Festival 2010.
ZAPIN originates from the middle-east and is one of the five basic traditional Malay dance forms. MUARA, on the other hand is the Malay word for river-mouth. Therefore, Zapin D'Muara simply implies Zapin at the rive mouth.
This 3-day festival organised by the National Arts Council for Singapore Arts Festival 2010 will showcase everything about Zapin! From the Zapin Trail, Movies under the Stars, Zapin singing competition, drawing and colouring contest for children, Zapin seminar by academicians of the 3 countries and traditional silat demonstrations to the nightly showcase of traditional and creative Zapin works from the best of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, Zapin D'Muara promises to be an enthralling experience with a variety of activities for people of all ages. There will also be a sumptuous spread of traditional food served along the walkway to enhance the whole experience. That truly makes Zapin D'Muara an appetizing cultural delight and also a wonderful outing for the whole family.
